I recently read the book Moondust, by Andrew Smith.

It tracks the whereabouts of the nine surviving moonwalkers - heroes of the late 60s and early 70s.

A few days later I found myself watching The Goonies and wondering what happened to those "heroes" of the 80s.

Here is some of what I discovered, thanks largely due to the research of others with even more time on their hands than me! Some useful links are at the bottom of the page.

"Down here it's our time... our time down here!"

Here they are reunited in 2001.

Left to right: Data, Mikey, Stef, Mouth, Andy, Richard Donner (director), Chunk, Brand.

played Mikey Walsh

Well, unless you live on Mars, you'd know Sean Astin recently played a leading role in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (kind of like The Goonies, but way longer and with too many CG effects!)

He's 35 years old, married and has three daughters.

All his daughters have the middle name Louise, which I find interesting for some reason!

played Data

Now known as Jonathan Ke Quan, his other big movie role was Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

The 35-year-old is now a martial artist and was a stunt co-ordinator for the films X-Men and The One.

played Mouth

Still going strong in showbiz, but perhaps better known for his battles with cocaine and sessions in rehab. Appeared in the celeb reality TV show Surreal Life.

He's 35 years old and married with one child.

played Brand Walsh

The son of actor James Brolin, he keeps on appearing in various TV shows, etc, and is romantically linked with various famous folk (was seeing Minnie Driver, but is now married to Diane Lane)

His film career reignited more recently wih acclaimed roles in No Country For Old Men and Milk.

He's 37 years old and has two children from a previous marriage.

played Chunk

The only Goonie who realised he has achieved artistic perfection in 1985 and turned his back on acting. He's now a lawyer in Los Angeles.

At UC Berkely he successfully ran for President of the Associated Students by using Chunk pictures on his campaign posters!

The youngest Goonie is 32 years old.

played Andy

Made a mixed bag of films and popped up on TV, including in an episode of ER.

She later co-founded a movie production company called Independent Women Artists.

Married and now known as Kerri Lee Green, she's 39 years old.

played Stef

Still making decent films and acting on stage, she was nominated for an Emmy in 2002 for an appearance on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.

Also well-known for a romance she had with River Phoenix, which she ended due to his drug habit!

She's 35 years old.
